About Us: Venture Philanthropy: Supporting Problem Solvers

Supporting Problem Solvers

GTRI attracts the best and brightest in the technical community. Seasoned researchers work closely with students and recent graduates to pio¬neer new technologies and to lead innovation. Mentoring rising research stars and creating a workplace environment that encourages and rewards risk-taking, and collaboration is a priority. The following are some of the ways in which you can support GTRI problem solvers.

Next Generation Researcher Fund

Nurturing a diverse workforce of young people who have a passion for science, math and technology is critical. To encourage students from traditionally underrepresented groups to pursue careers in applied science, GTRI seeks collaborations with Agnes Scott, Spelman, Morehouse and others to develop additional pathways to applied research careers. Name and endow this outreach effort for the long term with a gift $1.5M or make a gift of $60,000 for one year to start the ball rolling. A three year pledge of $180,000 would put this program on the fast-track.

High School Problem-Solver Scholarship

This fund establishes an annual national competition for innovation in problem solving. The winner will receive a scholarship and a paid applied research internship in a GTRI facility in the United States. A gift of $750,000 will endow this terrific opportunity to inspire students. The competition will be marketed aggressively to students and teachers. Seed funding of $90,000 would provide funding for the first three years.

Rising Star Young Researcher

This chair, which rotates on a two-year basis, will allow an especially promising early-career researcher to devote 50 percent of his or her time to a strategic global challenge or industry issue. Selection will be highly competitive, with preference given to research aligned with GTRI strategic research priorities or by interest areas determined by the donor. Name and endow the rising star chair forever with a gift of $1.5M or get it off the ground for the next two years with a gift of $120,000.
