About ASL

Applied Systems Laboratory

Located in Huntsville, Alabama, ASL conducts world-class applied research, development, test & evaluation (RDT&E) for several government agencies located at the U.S. Army Redstone Arsenal and local Huntsville area, including:

  • U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Research Development and Engineering Center
  • U.S. Army Program Executive Office Missile and Space
  • U.S. Army Program Executive Office Aviation
  • U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command
  • Department of Defense Missile Defense Agency

The laboratory’s multidisciplinary systems engineering and software development research skills include:

  • Ground-based air & missile defense (GBAMD) command & control (C2) design, development, modeling, simulation and analyses
  • Modeling, simulation & analyses of complete air and missile defense systems
  • Integrated air and missile defense architecture design, development & engineering
  • Software development and engineering of rotary-wing aviation mission planning systems

The lab conducts RDT&E activities of air and missile defense and aviation systems including hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL), software-in-the loop (SWIL), live fire exercises and system-of-systems & family–of–systems interoperability. Other significant research areas include force-on-force GBAMD simulations, interceptor guidance & control, and safety critical software development.
