Romy Smith

Chief Counsel, GTRI

Romy Smith serves as Chief Counsel to the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Prior to taking her position with Georgia Tech, Ms. Smith served as the Director of Legal Services and Senior Counsel for the Technical College System of Georgia (“TCSG”), where she provided TCSG and its 22 technical colleges with legal advice and counsel on a variety of legal issues impacting TCSG.

Prior to working at TCSG, Ms. Smith was an Assistant Attorney General in the employment litigation section of the Georgia Attorney General’s Office. As an Assistant Attorney General, Ms. Smith represented agencies within in the State of Georgia and public officials sued under various federal and state employment-related statutes.

Ms. Smith began her legal career as an Assistant Staff Judge Advocate in the Judge Advocate General’s Corp of the United States Air Force. Ms. Smith provided legal advice and counsel in a variety of areas, including military justice, legal assistance, civil law, and contracting.

Ms. Smith received her law degree from the University of Oklahoma, College of law, and her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Emory University.
