Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Laboratory

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Laboratory

GTRI’s UAV laboratory consists of work spaces for the fabrication of small UAVs, UAV system components and sensor integration. It also serves as the location for fabrication of various test configurations for use in the GTRI’s other Aerospace Research Facilities. Many of the models and UAVs constructed in this laboratory are tested either in GTRI facilities or field tested at remote sites.

Interoperability and Integration Innovation Lab (i3L)

Interoperability and Integration Innovation Lab (i3L)

The Southeast Center for Young Worker Safety and Health will provide training, educational resources, technical expertise, and an online resource center for young workers, parents, career and technical teachers and employers of young workers. The Center will coordinate and promote the efforts of health and safety training programs throughout the Southeast to develop a culture of workplace safety among young workers, as well as build a distinct young worker safety certificate program.

Low and High Speed Wind Tunnels

Low and High Speed Wind Tunnels

In these specialized facilities, used for advanced aerodynamics and flow control research, GTRI experts push the limits of their research and provide baseline and conceptual aerodynamics and propulsion data as inputs to various simulations, design processes, and performance evaluations for government and industry sponsors.

LIDAR Laboratories

LIDAR Laboratories

GTRI is home to four LIDAR laboratories, with a total of 1600 square feet of floor space. Two of the labs have electrically-operated roof hatches that provide a view of the zenith sky. The labs are fully equipped and house several lasers, telescopes, detectors, and data systems that are used in prototype lidar systems. One lab houses an operational ozone and aerosol lidar known as NEXLASER.

Electromagnetic Test and Evaluation Facility (EMTEF)

Electromagnetic Test and Evaluation Facility (EMTEF)

EMTEF is a multi-purpose, wideband, electromagnetic test facility that can test virtually every antenna, from cellular to satellite. EMTEF is comprised of several test ranges and laboratories that allow our customers to perform a large spectrum of tests and evaluations through one central facility.

Aeroacoustics Facilities

Aeroacoustics Facilities

GTRI is internationally known for its work in jet aeroacoustics and air circulation control technology, and offers extensive expertise in the areas of flow control, aero-sensor development and testing, aero-acoustics, launch acoustics, quiet UAV propulsion packages, aero-optics, wind-tunnel testing, field testing of military systems and sensors and innovative signal processing as applied to blast events, hostile fire detection  and acoustic source localization and characterization with particular application to detection of live voices.

Accessibility Evaluation Facility

Accessibility Evaluation Facility

GTRI’s Accessibility Evaluation Facility (AEF) has pioneered evaluation techniques designed to measure accessibility and usability of products and services. The AEF assists national and international corporations interested in developing solutions that conform with domestic and international disability regulations. The AEF also produces educational tools, such as the Arthritis Simulation Gloves, to educate designers and product managers concerning the experiences of people with functional limitations.
