HSCB Overview

The Human, Social, Cultural, Behavioral Modeling (HSCB) effort at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) includes several interesting projects and areas of research.  The group’s interdisciplinary work includes computer science, psychology and sociology, to create new tools, models and theory aimed at better understanding and exploring human behavior.

Several HSCB projects involve collaboration between multiple labs within GTRI, as well as other national and international universities.  The result of this effort is a body of work that can be used to help understand, predict, and respond to behavioral or threat activities.

You can learn more about past and current projects through the technical papers available through the link below and the link in the left side navigation bar.

Topics include:

  • Using content expertise for the creation of predictive behavioral models
  • Modeling events related to Improvised Explosive Device (IED) events
  • Linking or docking independent models for behavioral analysis
  • Translating/implementing psychology and sociological theories into executable models
  • Understanding behavioral influences on terrorist recruitment and activities
  • Analysis of the dissemination of information between individuals and groups
  • Representation of behavior at multiple scales (micro, meso, macro)
