Visit the Centennial Research Building

From Hartsfield International Airport and Points South of Atlanta

  1. Take I-75/I-85 North through downtown Atlanta to the 14th Street/10th Street exit.
  2. Stay to the left on the exit ramp.
  3. Turn left at the light onto 10th Street.
  4. Continue on 10th Street through the next four lights.
  5. Turn left onto Dalney. NOTE: Dalney is the next street to the left after the Papa John's Pizza. Because Dalney only intersects 10th Street on the left, it is easy to miss. Another landmark is the townhouse project directly across 10th Street from Dalney.
  6. The Centennial Research Building (CRB) is the large, red brick and cream-colored cement building located on a hill to the right.
  7. Park in the visitor lot on the left side of Dalney.
  8. Upon entering the building, immediately check in with building security at the front desk.

From Points Northeast of Atlanta (driving south on I-85)

  1. Take I-85 South to exit#84 marked 17th/14th/10th Street.
  2. Veer to the left for the 10th Street branch.
  3. Veer to the right for the 14th Street/10th Street westbound branch (best to get in the far right lane).
  4. Go straight (seeing signs for South I-75/85 & 10th St. Westbound) turn RIGHT (west) at 10th Street
  5. Go four lights (Fowler, Holly, Atlantic, & State streets)
  6. Turn left onto Dalney. NOTE: Dalney is the next street on the left after Papa John's Pizza. Because Dalney only intersects 10th Street on the left, it is easy to miss. Another landmark is the townhouse project directly across 10th Street from Dalney.
  7. The Centennial Research Building (CRB) is the large, red brick and cream cement building located on a hill to the right.

From Points Northwest of Atlanta (driving south on I-75)

  1. Take I-75 South to exit#250 marked Techwood/14th/10th Streets (and becomes) 16th/14th/10th Streets (still exit#250).
  2. Veer to the left onto 14th/10th St. branch.
  3. Cross over 14th Street, go straight, moving to far right lane seeing signs for South I-75/85 & 10th St westbound.
  4. Turn right onto 10th Street (going west)
  5. Go four lights (Fowler, Holly, Atlantic, & State streets)

  1. Take I-20 West to I-75/I-85 North.

The Centennial Research Building is on the Georgia Tech campus in Atlanta. It is conveniently reached by the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA). MARTA Directions

  1. Ride MARTA to the Midtown Station, located on West Peachtree Street.
  2. Take the 12 Howell Mill or 37 Defoors Ferry Rd. bus from Midtown Station, located on 10th Street. Tell the bus driver you would like to exit at State Street, by the Papa John's pizza restaurant.
  3. After exiting the bus at State Street, cross 10th Street at the crosswalk. Be aware that 10th Street is a high-traffic area and that crossing the street outside the crosswalk is not recommended.
  4. You should now be standing on the corner of State and 10th. The Centennial Research Building (CRB) at 400 10th Street is a short block west (the direction your bus just took you in) on Dalney Street.
  5. The CRB is a large six-story red brick and cream-colored cement building on a hill. Across Dalney from it are a small park and an old wooden barn. The Baker Building is located a bit further down Dalney Street -- it is the first brick building on your left. To reach the ERB building, walk to the end of Dalney Street and turn left onto Ferst Drive. The CRB is a block away at the intersection of Ferst Street and State Street. Please call your contact in the Hinman Building for walking directions from Dalney Street.
  6. As you enter any GTRI building, immediately check in with building security at the front desk.

To Return to Midtown Station from CRB via MARTA

Wait at the bus stop at the corner of 10th Street and State Street. Either the 12 or the 37 will take you to Midtown Station.

Visitor Procedures

Classified visits are necessary when the purpose of the visits cannot be achieved without access to, or disclosure of, classified information. All classified visits require advance notification to and approval of GTRI.

Visits to the Institute Involving Access to Classified Information

  1. GTRI visitors must sign in and out on the register for classified visits with the building attendant of the building visited. All visitors attending classified meetings must have an approved classified visit request for the specific visit on file with the GTRI Research Security Department.
  2. All visitors will have their identity verified and remain under constant escort when in areas in which classified work is in progress or classified information is available, unless otherwise authorized by the Research Security Department. The designated escort will be made aware of the visitor's access and movement limitations by the visitor's point of contact. Transfer of escort responsibility to another employee will be accomplished directly and personally.
  3. Visitors will be prohibited from making recordings during classified discussions, or taking photographs in any area where classified information might be recorded on film, unless the visitor has received prior written approval by the Government Contracting Authority (GCA) whose classified information is involved. A copy of this authorization must be provided to GTRI's director of research security in advance of the visit.
  4. Classified material may not be released to a visitor without prior written approval of the GCA, except as required in connection with contract administration, in performance of a prime or subcontract or as necessary in connection with an official investigation.
  5. Representatives of the federal government, when acting in their official capacity as inspectors, investigators or auditors, may visit the Institute without advanced notification, provided these representatives present appropriate government credentials upon arrival.

Long-term Visitors

Long-term visitors will follow GTRI's security procedures while a resident in the facility. Additionally, long-term visitors will:

  1. Arrange for their own visits away from the facility through their own company security office.
  2. Execute a security agreement acknowledging that they will follow GTRI's security policies and procedures. (Government employees and intermittent visitors are excluded from this requirement.)
  3. Not be permitted to be custodians of classified material.

Visits Not Involving Access to Classified Information

  1. Visitors will not be permitted to obtain physical, visual or aural access to classified information or material.
  2. When required, the visitor will present satisfactory identification and complete and sign the visitor register with the building attendant of the building visited.
  3. Prior authorization from GTRI's director of research security will be required for non-escort status and authorization to bring reproduction or recording equipment or material into the facility to be used in conjunction with a classified visit.
