John "JP" Pellegrino

Electro-Optical Systems Laboratory

Dr. John M. Pellegrino is Director of the Electro-Optical Systems Laboratory (EOSL) at Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI). Dr. Pellegrino leads and manages EOSL research programs, operations, and strategic initiatives.

Prior to joining GTRI, Dr. Pellegrino served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (Strategic Integration), wherein he led the strategy development, resource requirements, and overall business transformation processes. From 2011 to 2015, Dr. Pellegrino was Director of the Computational and Information Sciences Directorate (CISD) and Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the Army Research Laboratory (ARL), the Army's premier laboratory for fundamental research and analysis. In this role, he was responsible for fundamental research and its transition in the areas of network and information sciences, cyber defense, high performance computing, and battlefield environments. During this time, Dr. Pellegrino also served as Acting Director of the ARL. Prior to holding the titles of Director of CISD and CIO, Dr. Pellegrino served as Director of the Sensors & Electron Devices Directorate (SEDD), with responsibility for fundamental research and its transition in the areas of sensors, electronics, and signal processing.

Dr. Pellegrino holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, an MS in Physics from University of Wisconsin-Madison and a BA in Physics, Gordon College, Wenham, MA.
